Cook Time:

4 hrs 5 mins

Ingredients:

Servings: 6

3 cups vanilla yogurt

red food coloring

white food coloring

blue food coloring

wax paper

6 sugar ice cream cones

6 wooden popsicle sticks

Directions:

1. To make a half dozen pops, tint 1/2 cup of the yogurt with red food coloring and 1 1/2 cups with blue food coloring. Leave the rest plain.

2. Make waxed paper cone liners by folding six 12-inch square sheets into triangles, wrapping each around a sugar cone, and using tape to hold the shape. Then place the paper cones inside the sugar cones.

3. Fill each cone with 1 tablespoon red yogurt, followed by 2 tablespoons white yogurt, then 3 tablespoons blue yogurt. Insert a Popsicle stick and freeze the pops until firm, about 4 hours, using the cone box with six circles cut out to keep them upright.

Activity for the Kids and Kids at Heart

Everybody gets to carry the flag in this Fourth of July relay parade.

What You Need

Buckets of sand

Small American flags

Instructions

To set up the race, divide the group into 2 teams. For each team, place a bucket of sand filled with small American flags (1 per teammate) on the far side of the yard.

On cue, the first kid from each team races to the appropriate bucket, plucks a flag, and marches back to his team as quickly as possible (no running allowed!) to tag the next person.

The game continues in this way until all the members of one team have returned to the starting line with a flag in hand. At day’s end, make everyone a winner by letting all the kids take home their flags as favors.
