Be Careful What You Wish For… You Might Create It!

Be careful what you wish for!

Do you ever get what you want and then question yourself, “What the hell was I thinking”? Well I have. I have found myself in that space more than once with the expansion of BV Yoga. Although I know it is exactly what I want and need to be doing, my head likes to tell me differently. If I allow myself, I can easily get carried away with the risks, responsibilities, and demands.

I fully recognize that following my passion and dreams comes with a cost and that there are sacrifices I need to make. The decision to live our life’s passion comes with having to say no to other things that we love to do, saying no to places we like to be, and perhaps even people that we love to be with. It can be challenging when faced with choices, especially when they are all good choices. In order to say YES to growth and to following the dreams that lead us to the bigger vision of the life we want to create, we must say no at times to create space for it to happen. Saying no to people, places and activities that were once a constant in our lives or to new opportunities that come up can leave us with the experience of loss and a natural process of mourning.

It is important to pause and feel the loss and sadness that comes from making these difficult choices. The pause isn’t to dwell on or regret it but simply to allow the space to feel it. Once we allow ourselves permission to experience the truth of where we are, the feelings and thoughts can more easily be released. We can move forward powerfully, taking a stand for the decisions we make to live an authentic life.

Creating and living your passion isn’t always a luxury. Just because you love it doesn’t mean it won’t challenge you. In fact, following your life’s work will challenge you more than anything else you choose to do. All great accomplishments come with the willingness to sacrifice something else. It is not the sacrifices that get in our way of moving forward with joy and gratitude; it is how we perceive them. Sacrifice means letting go and surrendering. So much of our yoga practice is about letting go. It takes courage and willingness to move through fears and take the risks to go for your dreams, and then willingness to surrender into the decision. The result and gift we receive when we follow our heart is the reward of fulfillment, contentment and sustainable happiness.

With love and gratitude,

Kiersten
