Treat Your Dad To Yoga On Father’s Day

jim-mooney-yoga-dadAs a father of seven and grandfather of 14, I have experienced many changes in my life. Even the most trying challenges are wonderful. I am grateful to be surrounded with amazing people in the Bala Vinyasa Yoga community. While I still love my work, yoga has become a priority in my life. My yoga practice has evolved from on my mat to off the mat with my family.

Getting started, I realized how weak my practice was on the mat. I am sure some of you laughed with me as I fell and struggled. WOW!!!  Maybe as a father I perceived myself as I did prior to starting yoga, a “model” father. Of course I was, but the definition of my model is a “small replica of the real thing.” It is a good feeling to realize that I am changed both on and off the mat. Now it is no secret, I am happy to be a work in progress as a father, even if it means an occasional headstand to see things in a different way. I have grown and I can say I truly am grateful for Kiersten, the wonderful staff and teachers, welcoming facility and the fellow yogis, who have helped me evolve as a father.

I would like to see more fathers participate in yoga. As fathers, we never stop creating, working and supporting our families. Being a father is not a job of now and then. It is a commitment to the end, like your yoga practice!

Thank you for letting me grow as a father. Invite the fathers in your life to show up and share the gift of yoga.
