memorial-day-paradeThat’s right, this weekend is already Memorial Day Weekend! That means the start of summer: outdoor BBQs, bonfires, lazy hazy days by the pool, and heat waves. We are ready to kick off summer with Memorial Day Weekend events in the community. Here are a few events near you to get you excited:

Lowe’s Grow and Build Clinic for Kids

  • Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic for kids will have a cool wood Biplane craft for your kids.  To register for this free clinic, go the website.

Cirque D’Or

  • Where: Oakland University, 2200 N Squirrel Rd, Rochester, MI 48309 (Meadow Brook Music Festival)
  • Date: May 28, 2011
  • Time: 3:00pm
  • The Meadow Brook Music Festival will host Cirque D’Or. This Chinese Acrobatic troupe will amaze you with their beautiful dance, acrobatics and artistry. The are two shows today, one at 3 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m.

Rochester Farmer’s Market

Greater Rochester Heritage Days

  • Where: Rochester Municipal Park, Ludlow Street, Rochester, MI

  • The Greater Rochester Heritage Days are an annual celebration of our town, history and community.

    The two-day festival will include a chili cook-off on Saturday, arts and craft for sale, car show, live music and much more.

    The festival will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Greater Rochester Area Memorial Day Parade

  • Where: Mount Avon Cemetery, Third Street, Rochester, MI 48307
  • Date: May 30, 2011
  • Time: 10:00am—12:00pm
  • Monday, May 30, 2011, opening ceremony 9:15 am at Mt Avon Cemetery, City of Rochester.  Parade begins at 10:00 am from the cemetery to Veteran’s Memorial Point (corner of Avon and Livernois) Rochester Hills for closing ceremony.Also we have a contest for children under 13 to dress up showing your patriotism.  Judging will take place on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 8:30 am at Mt Avon Cemetery.  First place prize is a bike for both boy and girl winner.Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Guardian Angel Cemetery, located on Rochester Road North of Tienken, at 2:00 pm a memorial mass will be held followed by a service for our Veterans and Soldiers.Any questions of to participate please call Terri Williams at 248-651-8137

St. Mary’s Polish Festival

  • Where: 3535 Indian Trl, Orchard Lake, MI 48324 (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School)

  • Time: 5:00pm—11:00pm

  • The Polish Country Fair opens Friday, May 27 at 5 p.m. and runs through Monday, May 31. Fair hours are: Friday 5-11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. — 11 p.m., and Monday, 11 a.m. — 8 p.m. The Las Vegas tent has special hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 5 p.m. — 1:00 a.m., and Monday, 3-8 p.m. Entrance to the Fair is free. All-day ride passes are $23, if purchased at the Fair, or $20, if purchased in advance at local Meijer stores between now and May 27.   On-campus parking is $10.00 per vehicle.

Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade

  • Where: Starts S. Main Street and Harrision, Royal Oak, MI
  • Date: May 30, 2011
  • Time: 9:00am
  • Bring the whole family out to honor and give respect to our veterans at the Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade.

    The parade will start at S. Main St. and Harrison, then travel North to 2nd Street, ending at the Veteran’s Memorial.

Ferndale Memorial Day Parade

  • Where: Livernois and West Breckenridge, Ferndale, MI
  • Date: May 30, 2011
  • Time: 10:00am
  • Today is the 93rd Annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Ferndale. This is the longest running Memorial Day Parade in Michigan.  Come out to honor our veterans!

    The Parade officially starts on Livernois at West Breckenridge, and heads north. The parade will march east on Maplehurst, south on Woodward, west on 9 Mile, and south at Livernois, ending at the Memorial Mall in front of Ferndale Fire Station #1.
