New Books And Movies In November 2010 LIFE: Rolling Stones Fans This One’s For You!

LIFE:

The long-awaited autobiography of the guitarist, songwriter, singer, and founding member of the Rolling Stones. Ladies and gentlemen: Keith Richards.  With The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the songs that roused the world, and he lived the original rock and roll life.  Now, at last, the man himself tells his story of life in the crossfire hurricane. Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, learning guitar and forming a band with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones. The Rolling Stones’s first fame and the notorious drug busts that led to his enduring image as an outlaw folk hero. Creating immortal riffs like the ones in “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Honky Tonk Women.” His relationship with Anita Pallenberg and the death of Brian Jones. Tax exile in France, wildfire tours of the U.S., isolation and addiction. Falling in love with Patti Hansen. Estrangement from Jagger and subsequent reconciliation. Marriage, family, solo albums and Xpensive Winos, and the road that goes on forever.

With his trademark disarming honesty, Keith Richard brings us the story of a life we have all longed to know more of, unfettered, fearless, and true.

After marathon testing sessions from thousands of recipes–many sent in by readers–they chose a stunning collection of recipes, including the almond-scented French-style Cajun Macaroons (1941), Mocha Toffee Bars (1971) and Glittering Lemon Sandwich Cookies (2008). Printed exactly as they originally appeared in the magazine–with abundant tips from Gourmet’s test kitchen and headnotes describing their cultural context–the recipes present a fascinating bite-by-bite history of how our appetites evolved.

Invincible: The Benedict Brothers

Bella Benedict’s five grown children are scattered around the world like a handful of precious jewels. Now she’s dying and she has one last, secret wish. To bring her children home. And to give them what she once had a marriage of passion.

Wealthy playboy Max Benedict has no interest in long-term commitment. He had his heart broken once and that was enough. Instead, he travels the world, working as a sometime spy for the CIA. When he’s asked to investigate a foreign threat against the president, he doesn’t think twice about accepting–until he hears who he’ll be working with in London.

FBI Special Agent Kristin Lassiter is under investigation and on the verge of losing everything–her savings, her job, her beloved father. So when Bella Benedict approaches her with the offer to pay her mounting debts, she’s tempted to accept. But there’s a catch–a big one. Bella wants Kristin to win the heart of her son Max, the very man who destroyed Kristin years ago. A man unaware he fathered her nine-year-old daughter. If Kristin succeeds, she’ll get the money she needs–and the priceless Blackthorne rubies Bella has offered to sweeten the deal. The only problem is, can she win Max’s heart without falling back in love with him?

Movies

For Colored Girls (Drama)  Opens Nov. 5

Director: Tyler Perry

Starring: Janet Jackson, Kimberly Elise, Loretta Divine, Anika Noni Rose, Whoopi Goldberg,

The movie is based on Ntozake Shange’s play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” Unlike the original play which featured only 7 women known by colors performing the collection of 20 poems, the movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the women portray one of the characters represented in the collection of twenty poems, revealing different issues that impact women in general and women of color in particular.

Fair Game:

A suspense-filled glimpse into the dark corridors of political power, ‘Fair Game’ is a riveting action-thriller based on the autobiography of real-life undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts), whose career was destroyed and marriage strained to its limits when her covert identity was exposed by a politically motivated press leak.
As a covert officer in the CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division, Valerie leads an investigation into the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Valerie’s husband, diplomat Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), is drawn into the investigation to substantiate an alleged sale of enriched uranium from Niger. But when the administration ignores his findings and uses the issue to support the call to war, Joe writes a New York Times editorial outlining his conclusions and ignites a firestorm of controversy.

Welcome To The Rileys:  Opened Oct. 29th

Kristen Stewart became a household name by playing mortal heroine Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight’ franchise. But in ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ she takes on a much more brazen role. Twi-hards might have to shield their eyes — because in this compelling drama, Stewart plays foul-mouthed, teenage runaway-turned-stripper Mallory, who forms a platonic friendship with Doug Riley (James Gandolfini), a man who lost his daughter in a car accident eight years prior.
