We have very exciting news! CrossFit Bloomfield has officially moved from our 300-square foot facility to a 3,000-square foot facility! Please come and check us out. We’d love to show you around!  We are now located at 2124 Franklin Road in Bloomfield Hills. We are in the same building as Bloomfield Gymnastics and we could not be more excited to share the space with them! We also now feature an amazing massage bed from a company called Migun. Prepare to unwind on this bed for 30 minutes after a hard WOD for just $20!

June is Great Outdoors Month!

June was declared Great Outdoors Month in 2004. The proclamation of Great Outdoors Month helped the President highlight a variety of initiatives, events and themes he embraces – more active lifestyles to combat obesity, volunteerism to strengthen our communities and our shared legacy of parks and forests, protection of our environment and enjoyment of the splendor of the great outdoors.

The goal of Great Outdoors Month is to highlight the benefits of active time outdoors to people, to families, to communities and to the nation. Recreation is a valuable means for education and volunteerism is a great gift – to the nation and to volunteers themselves. And, outdoor recreation is a fun, healthy use of leisure time.

So we say, get up off your butt, get outside and get physical! Now that the weather’s great, at least some of every WOD we do is now outside! Come join us.

CrossFit Bloomfield is a functional training program that combines cardio, gymnastics, and weight training to challenge and strengthen the mind and body. Jordan, a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer, coaches students through a new “cocktail” of exercises in every class, for a fresh, high-intensity workout. CrossFit Bloomfield is from everyone from a child as young as 3 years old to an elite athlete to a senior citizen. Every CrossFit Bloomfield workout can be tailored for all ages and all levels of ability. A continuous variety motivates members to push their personal limits and empowers them to achieve new fitness goals.

Fitness Tip of the Month

Every month, I share with you at least one fitness tip to make working out more effective and more enjoyable for you. This month, I want to focus on the importance of being able to do a pull up the right way.

The key to doing pull ups is to pull with your back. Here is a video of the perfect pull up.

Nutrition Tip of the Month

CrossFit reports that excessive consumption of high-glycemic carbohydrates is the primary culprit in nutritionally caused health problems. High glycemic carbohydrates are those that raise blood sugar too rapidly. High-glycemic carbohydrates include rice, bread, candy, potato, sweets, sodas, and most processed carbohydrates. Processing can include bleaching, baking, grinding, and refining. Processing of carbohydrates greatly increases their glycemic index, a measure of their propensity to elevate blood sugar.

So if you want to get the most out of your workout – i.e. get the most toned body you can – avoid high glycemic carbohydrates! If you find yourself eating too many of these foods, work one out of your diet at a time. We want you to be a success, so improve your health with baby steps so you don’t fail!

The mission of JLCOF is to raise the awareness of the huge childhood obesity epidemic that is sweeping our nation through education and research. I am building an organization based on my vision to improve the quality of our children’s lives. We are a grassroots organization that is going to help economically challenged children who have the highest rate of obesity.
