First, make sure to exfoliate your skin all over! Your skin sheds dead skin cells every minute of everyday. If you don’t exfoliate them your skin will look dry and dull. Rub an exfoliator in small circles on your entire body 2-3 times a week for the best results. Take note, if you clean your skin to obsessively, you will strip it of all oil and send your oil glands into overdrive, creating the opposite affect you are looking to achieve.
Next, lay off the heavy moisturizers you rely on in the depth of winter. Instead, turn to a lighter moisturizer with an SPF. Make sure your sun block has at least a 30 SPF and that it blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Don’t forget to reach those easy to miss spots like the tops of your feet and ears, and the part in your hair. And also, remember to cover up any scars, as sun can lighten or darken them, making them much more noticeable.
Remember to protect those luscious lips as well! This is an area we constantly overlook! Use at least a 30 SPF and stay away from anything too glossy. Gloss attracts the negative sunrays.
You may also choose to use a self tanner or tinted moisturizer. Make sure whichever one you choose matches your skin tone and is a non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Also stay away from tanners with a bad odor; look for ones that have a scent to cover up the smell of self-tanning lotion.
Then, lighten up your makeup for a more natural sun-kissed look. Use mineral based powders that cover imperfections without giving you the caked-on look. These absorb oil without setting into your skin. Also, use light shimmery eye shadows and light eyeliner to really make your eyes stand out.
Also, make sure your stylish shades have 100% UV protection. This will help you better protect your eyes from things like macular degeneration, cataracts, and photokeratitis. And, the bigger your glasses are, the more skin around the eyes will be protected from wrinkles and skin cancer, so don’t worry about not being able to pull off the big glasses trend and get with it!
Don’t forget to constantly take measures to reduce oil build-up. Keep blotting tissues with you to keep your skin from getting too oily and pores from clogging. If you don’t have blotting tissues, a regular napkin will even do. Just blot your face lightly to absorb access oil from the heat. At night, use a facemask that absorbs oil, toxins and pollutants to rid your skin before getting into bed. The build up can cause bad breakouts.
And my last tip for the perfect summer glow is…..WATER! Drink as much water as possible to help rid your body of toxins and keep your body and skin hydrated! Water will make all the difference in the world for great skin!
Also note, if you do end up with the regretted sunburn, here are a few tips to help you heal quickly…

Remember, you can look and feel great this summer, while still protecting your skin! So, here’s to fun in the sun and a healthy glow…..And hopefully a long sunny season!
