15 Ways to Green-ify Your Life

Start 2010 off feeling good about yourself by doing good things for the environment!  Green-fiy your way of living by just tweaking small aspects of your life.  Here are 15 easy ways to go green that will benefit you and the rest of the globe.

Buying in bulk can save money and packaging. If you don’t have the room for 20 rolls of paper towel, see if a neighbor wants to split the pack with you.

Are you cleaning up after your dog? Good. Now make sure that you are using biodegradable bags do it.

Unplug unused appliances and chargers. Leaving you’re cell phone charger plugged into the socket even when it’s not charging it wastes energy. Unplug fans, curling irons, printers and computer monitors when out of use.

Print on both sides of a sheet of paper.

Wash only large loads of laundry, less often instead of small ones every few days, and only run the dishwasher when it’s fully loaded (same concept).

Use empty wine bottles as vases.

Turn off the water when brushing your teeth and scrubbing your face. You will conserve both water and money.

When shopping, request that items not be packaged in tissue, plastic bags or any wrapping that you cannot recycle.

Walk, people. Give the car a rest.

Set a couple of empty buckets outside the next time you’re expecting rain, and use the collected rainwater to water potted plants.

Use recycled toilet paper. It’s still soft and functional, and you can find it at your local Trader Joe’s for the same price as your regular paper.

Reuse holiday cards by cutting by off the front of the card and turning it into a gift tag for one of next year’s presents.

Switch to an online bill pay plan; you can save paper as well as a few dollars off your bill depending on which bank you use.

Buy whole peaches instead of canned peaches, it lessens the amount of aluminum and other packaged materials used.

Buy local food, you’ll be supporting your community’s economy, and lessening your carbon footprint as the food is traveled less and usually has less packaging.

Doing good for the environment, feels great!
