Overstock.com has stopped selling products made from exotic animal skins. Items pulled included apparel, accessories, watchbands, shoes and luggage. All were made from or contained alligator, crocodile, lizard, ostrich, stingray, eel, shark and kangaroo. The online retailer has not sold any items with fur since 2008. Sales of ivory has also been banned.
Patrick Byrne, CEO, thanked People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for “presenting us with evidence that factored into our decision.” It was the Humane Society of the United States that opened his eyes to what happens in the fur industry. Mr. Byrne made these decisions after seeing films of animals being skinned alive.
