  • Stop drinking your calories. Have your hot chocolate or coffee, but cut back on the calories by switching from whole or 2% to nonfat milk . Or trade in your glass of orange juice for an actual orange.
  • Swap out your beef for turkey. Almost every beef-involved meal can use turkey as a substitute. Use ground meat for meatballs and turkey burgers for cheeseburgers. Or grill up turkey sausages instead of the traditional ones. There are even recipes for homemade turkey-loaf.
  • Substitute healthily. Fry up four egg whites instead of two whole eggs.
  • Compromise. Get a burger but hold the fries and cheese, or have a roll with dinner but avoid slathering it in butter.
  • When cooking with foods that require butter or oil to prepare, use low sodium chicken broth instead.
  • Control your portion sizes when eating out. Divide your entree into four quarters and make sure you have at least one quarter of left on your plate at the end of the meal.
  • Ease up on breaded foods. Avoid foods like chicken parmesan or fish and chips. Flour and bread crumbs not only add calories but, they absorb more oil in cooking too.
  • Have a warm, gooey brownie, but skip the ice cream and chocolate syrup topping to avoid a sugar and calorie overload.
  • Eat whole, fresh fruits, instead of dried, sugared ones.
  • Bring your own popcorn to the movies. Make a bag of Orville Redenbacher’s 94% fat free Smart Pop and hide it in your purse ( a lot of theaters don’t let you bring your own food). Or if you are going to indulge in theater popcorn, get a kid’s size one without butter.
