Many of my clients feel that they are doing the right things, but still cannot lose weight. Often, after we look carefully at what they are eating, we find that they are consuming more calories than they realize. I find that one particularly troublesome over-portioned item is ICE CREAM.
While 140 calories per serving for low-fat ice cream may sound good, the 1/2 cup portion listed on most ice cream cartons is tiny. The typical portion served is 1 cup or 280 calories! If you love your brand, then try eating it in a small cup–like a 3-ounce paper cup. Be sure to level the top. Make sure to avoid taking an extra spoonful while standing. If this doesn’t work for you, then you could switch to pre-portioned frozen treats. My clients like Blue Bunny frozen yogurt treats (40-60 calories, available at Hillers) or the Skinny Cow Chocolate Truffle bars (100 calories).
